What Richard Morgan does next

Posted by Ed on 23 October 2007

Having set the SF genre alight a few years back with his acclaimed debut Altered Carbon and its sequels, Richard Morgan has decided to take a break from SF and have a go at the fantasy genre. Over on UK SF Book News there’s a teaser of what we can expect and, in typical Morgan style, it’s not jolly.

Also, news just in: US publisher Subterranean Press have announced that Altered Carbon will be getting their limited edition treatment. No more details other than this so far.

PS - there’s a sale on

Posted by Ed on 15 October 2007

Multi award winning UK based independent small press PS Publishing launched their newly revamped website this morning. To celebrate Pete Crowther and gang decided to have a sale (and probably to clear some storage space for all those new titles he has coming out). All pre-2007 titles still in stock are now half price. Ariel has been slaving over his PC for the last few months, tweaking the final design and installing the new e-commerce ordering system (which having already tried it out I can say works very well indeed). Read more here

As pointed out in their blog post, PS specialise in limited edition print runs and rarely do reprints so when the stock is gone, it’s gone. Postage is £2 per book for the UK and £4 per book for rest of world.

So why are you still here?

1000+

Posted by Ed on 7 October 2007

Checking my blog stats today and the viewing has passed the 1000 point, less than 3 months after I started this blogging lark on 13 July. This total was helped in no small way by the Iain M Banks Matter cover post back on 8 August, which so far has amassed 495 hits and still being read. Most of these are finding their way over from Ariel’s UK SF Book News, so a big thank you to him for that. He’ll probably also insist that the move to WordPress from Blogger is a major contributory factor. Not sure about that but it certainly is a better platform to work with.

These stats reflect only visits to the site and what people are clicking on within the blog, not those reading the posts via feeds, so the total may well be higher.

I haven’t bothered to analyse the rest of the posts for popularity, to do so might make me start to bias the blog towards what I think people want to read, rather than the “whatever I feel like” approach that was my original intention. So expect more of the same and a thank you to all those who have taken the time to read and post comment.

Park Chan-Wook interview

Posted by Ed on 2 October 2007

The acclaimed South Korean director is interviewed over on Firecracker about his new film, I’m A Cyborg But That’s Okay, a departure from  the Vengeance Trilogy that made his name, and his desire to show there is more to Asian cinema than the extreme tag it has been labelled with in recent years.

The site also has archive interviews with him on the second and third of his vengeance films Old Boy and Lady Vengeance.
