Books Read February 2009

Posted by Ed on 26 February 2009

Another four books read this month, even if two of them are quite short. I started on Dan Simmons’ Ilium on Monday, so I can post February’s list early; there’s no way I’ll have that book finished before the end of the week.

5. The Digital Plague – Jeff Somers – 2008 – Orbit

6. Illyria – Elizabeth Hand – 2007 – PS Publishing

7. Japanese Castles 1540-1640 – Stephen Turnbull – 2003 – Osprey

8. Binding Energy – Daniel Marcus – 2008 – Elastic Press

Movies Watched January 2009

Posted by Ed on 1 February 2009

As with the books I’ve been reading, the films I’ve watched for the first time will be monthly posts rather than a long list on a separate page. It’ll be a long monthly list instead. The links for each take you to the relevant IMDB page, and the other info is director, year of original release and main country of origin.

1. Yesterday -  Jeon Yun-Su – 2002 – South Korea

2. The Face Of Fu Manchu - Don Sharp – 1965 – UK

3. The Wig – Won Shin-Yuon – 2005 – South Korea

4. 9th Company – Fyodor Bondarchuk – 2007 – Russia

5. The Night Of The Sunflowers – Jorge Sánchez-Cabezudo – 2006 – Spain

6. Dead Silence – James Wan – 2007 – USA

7. Running Out Of Time – Johnny To – 1999 – Hong Kong

8. The Forbidden Kingdom – Rob Minkoff – 2008 – USA/China

9. Frontiers – Xavier Gens – 2007 – France

10. X-Men: The Last Stand – Brett Ratner – 2006 – USA

11. No Country For Old Men – Joel and Ethan Coen – 2007 – USA

Books Read January 2009

Posted by Ed on 1 February 2009

Here’s the first of the new look “what I’ve been reading” guide. As mentioned in my previous post I intend to post these as monthly updates, rather than one big long list on a dedicated page. One of my plans this year is to try and read some of the books that have been languishing on the shelves unread for as long as five years, one of the drawbacks of buying too many books and getting new ones I want to read now rather than in a few months time (then a few months becomes a year and so on).

1. Something Rotten – Jasper Fforde – 2004 – Hodder

2. Bad Things – Michael Marshall – 2009 – Harper Collins

3. A Maze Of Death – Philip K Dick – 1970 – Gollancz

4. Watchmen – Alan Moore – 1986 – Titan Books
