Got an email from Amazon the other day reminding me that Frank Black, playing as Black Francis, has a new 7 track mini-album, entitled Svn Fngrs, out next week on Cooking Vinyl here in the UK. You can currently listen to three tracks from it over on the Black Francis website; click on the guitar at the bottom and the music player appears, complete with an interesting Pixies-jazz-style track.
Here’s the video for “I Sent Away” to whet your appetite further -

US thrashers Muncipal Waste have had the video for their new single Headbanger Face Rip banned by You Tube as it is deemed to have inappropriate content. Well, they did let Troma Entertainment make it.
As described on the band’s UK label Earache Records website
“This banned version of the track features the legendary Troma style blood, guts and gore seen in many of their genre-defining B-movie style shock flicks, which fit well with Municipal Waste’s outrageous party attitude.”
The TV friendly version of the video remains on You Tube but if you want to see what the fuss is about the uncensored “Gore Version” is available here.

The musical genius that is Frank Black has a new album coming out next month. However, he has reverted back to his Pixies name of Black Francis, and it sounds like this is a return to more raucous material rather than the more mellow alt-country stuff he has been releasing the last couple of years.
The album is released in the UK on 3rd September and you can listen to the first couple of tracks over on the dedicated Bluefinger website, where Frank/Black/Charles explains the origins of his Pixies stage name, what made him revert back to it and the inspiration for the album.
